Tuning Forks, Moxa, & Cupping

Tuning forks are a unique aspect of your treatments at Pure Acupuncture. The forks are applied to acupuncture points or points of pain.  They provide a vibration that is deeply peaceful and relaxing for our bodies and mind.  Tuning forks are also an awesome alternative for people who are needle sensitive, as your treatments can involve less needles while still getting the benefits of the acupuncture points.  Children also respond well to tuning forks.

Tuning forks are calibrated to represent specific vibrations.  The one most commonly used vibrates at the frequency of “OHM.”  Since our bodies are close to 70% water, and we know that sound travels faster in water than air, the human body is deeply impacted by sound and vibration.  For example, we have all experienced beautiful music evoking joy, sadness or other feelings.  Jarring or loud music or noises, on the other hand, can often lead to irritability and agitation.

For many people, a treatment with the tuning forks can lead to a relaxation that is rarely felt in the hustle of daily life.  The forks are a gentle reminder of how we are in our natural state: peaceful, lighthearted, and joyful.

Cupping, Gua sha, Electro, & Moxa:

  • Cupping is a method of treating disease, pain and tightness by applying suction cups to the body.  It is excellent at relaxing tense muscles as it impacts the muscles.
  • Gua sha is a smooth tool that is scraped over lubricated skin for various diseases and tightness. Gua sha is incredibly effective at releasing old tension and for boosting immunity at the beginning of a sickness.
  • Electrostimulation involves the application of electricity to acupuncture needles.  The electricity creates a buzzing sensation.  It is excellent for pain and to increase the effectiveness of an acupuncture treatment for various issues.
  • Moxabustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that involves adding warmth to increase qi & circulation in the body. It is deeply nourishing & soothing.
